MAKE SOMETHING BAD

The hardest part of doing creative work?
It ain’t the work.

It’s convincing yourself to start — with no guarantee it’ll be good, appreciated, or even seen.

So you waste time.

You set up new systems.
You buy new notebooks. Start new projects.
You binge productivity videos.
You doom scroll.

You call it learning.
It's not.

Learning without doing is like eating without shitting.

Your mind is constipated with information you haven’t digested, but you keep feeding it garbage.

You thumb through Instagram reels while Netflix plays in the background. If you could stuff cheap dopamine into capsules, you'd probably pop hundreds.

Learning has a half-life.
After a while it’s mere procrastination.

Real talk.

You don’t need better apps.
Prettier journals.
Another course.

You need to make something bad.

That’s how you build taste.
It’s how you build creative resilience.
How you build your voice.
Yourself.

And stop looking for shortcuts. There are none.
No amount of optimization, systematization, or productivity will ever make you feel whole (or ready).

You'll feel lost.
You'll doubt everything — especially yourself.
You'll make shit choices.
You'll create shit work.
But shit will work.

Just remember:
No hack makes the first draft easier.
No guru can cure your self-doubt.
No tool, book, or system will save you from the torture of sitting in the chair, staring at the blank page, and starting again.

That's our ritual.
That's our work.

The only work that matters.

Take a shit on the page.

P.S. Reply with the project you’re avoiding. Then close your tabs, and make something so bad your ego goes into exile.

P.P.S. If this hit you where it hurts, forward to a friend you love (or an enemy you hate).

Luisa is too young to be this wise. The title alone is a punch in the stomach. Perfect if you’re looking for a mini existential crisis.

AI is terrible for creativity, but terribly good for productivity. I’m learning to work with it. This talk gently forced me to consider its potential.
